Old Business
2008 Rally and plans for the 2009 Rally
- Dale (“Doc”) Jones recapped recent events (Rally 08’, Last month’s mtg.
@ Schwandt’s, etc.), and the discussions that have since taken place,
bringing us up to speed on current club issues and events. re: Rally
2009Despite requests made to change X-Rally dates to coincide with Sturgis,
the idea lacked support as the general consensus preferred to keep the two
events separate. Rally dates for2009 have been set and confirmed as being
July 9-12, with the title/theme being “X Rally X“. Location of the event
will remain as it has in the past beginning in Albert Lea and ending in Le
Sueur, Minnesota. John Jones indicates the general consensus seems in
agreement overall that the rallies and their schedules of past have gone
well. However, consideration into a slight schedule change on Saturday may
be necessary in order to accommodate both a ride and the Dyno Shootout
event. To recap, in the past, these two events have run simultaneously of
one another. This undeniably creates a division within the club, forcing
members to decide which event to attend. It should be noted that the “Dyno
Shootout” is an award-based event. One suggestion made by Mike Hamann would
be to have a shorter ride on Saturday followed by the Dyno event, thus
providing opportunity for club members wishing participation in both. The
matter remains to be a topic for further discussion. The matter of it being
the 10th Anniversary was also discussed and open to thoughts and ideas with
regards to this. The overall feeling of those in attendance seemed to agree,
this rally should be given special attention because of the anniversary
date, which in itself is likely to increase attendance. Additionally, it was
felt by most that extra effort should be made to promote it further. Some
suggestions made were informing all EH owners of the rally, whether club
members or not (Doc Bowman indicated this information is public record and
has offered to compile the data), letters to editors of magazines who
formerly highlighted the EH movement, getting local media coverage,
including entertainment (Doc Bowman again offered assistance in this area),
introducing a “Hall of Fame“(To honor and give recognition due to
outstanding club members) and the possibility of extending an invitation for
other motorcycle enthusiasts to attend. With regards to rally shirts,
sweatshirts, etc., Mike Hamann has again offered his assistance and is
looking for and open to any/all ideas and suggestions. Last but not least,
was a recap of the issues surrounding the Rally bike show and the need to
clarify the criteria being used to determine appropriate classifications and
entry requirements. We were advised that a committee will be formed to
address these issues prior to our next rally.
New Business
The Annual Holiday Party
Membership
- Current and historical membership stats were questioned by Amy Snyder,
thus in turn opening conversation on what we as a club can do to increase
and retain membership. As pointed out new members should feel welcomed and
all members, including those out of state, a feeling of inclusion.
Suggestions made were; “welcome letter” for new members, quarterly online
meetings, absentee ballots for club members to vote on issues, updating the
club website to include message boards and annual newsletter. Again, the
matter remains to be a topic for future discussion.
